October’s Gone…Hello November!

Princess Dawn 5_10_15A message from Brian (Coordinator for the Ambassadors)

Wow, just worked out that there are only 7 Saturdays until, Christmas and only 4 Fridays until the Volunteer Ambassador’s End of Year Celebratory Cruise!!! 🙂

October was a fairly steady month with 5880 people visiting town and 1388 heading out on various tours.  I’ve had some interesting discussions recently regarding cruise ships heading for different destinations in 2016. We had an approach from people in Gladstone a few weeks ago, and this week a woman from Port Kembla (Newcastle) initiated a similar discussion. Both are being heavily supported (sponsored) by their local authority (Council). Will be interesting to get feedback in due course. 🙂

All of this new activity brings the actual and potential new ports on the East Coast to: Gladstone, Morten Island, Maroochydore, Port Kembla and potentially Townsville (with Mackay trying).  Also, it seems that Hamilton Island will be visited by upwards of 10 ships next year.

November has started with a big bang!  Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas anchored off Airlie Beach on 1st November on her maiden visit to our part of the world.  Carrying over 3000 passengers it is the largest ship to visit Airlie so to mark the occasion, Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Jenny Whitney presented Voyager of the Seas’ Captain Sverre Ryan with a commemoration plaque.

December will bring a final three ships to our shores, making a total of 38 for 2015. But more about that next month.  🙂
